A photo of the Forest Preserve's throwable life preserver ring and alarm at Silver Lake

In time for winter and ice activities, the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County is piloting a throwable life preserver ring and alarm at Blackwell Forest Preserve’s Silver Lake to mitigate the risk of drownings. Silver Lake is a no-swim lake that allows fishing, boating, and stand-up paddleboarding. Boaters should still wear their life vests, and ice anglers should be aware of the signs of unsafe ice conditions.
