Be vigilant against ruse burglaries. Don’t let anyone, who you don’t know, into your home. Also be cautious about giving information or business to companies that call or stop by your property unsolicited. Always check for an ID of anyone purporting to work on your home. Also be alert for any ruse burglary attempts by potential offenders posing as utility company employees. They will often attempt to isolate a resident to a small area of the home while an accomplice sneaks in a different entrance to steal any valuables in plain sight.

Practice your 9pm routine. Please remember to lock your vehicle doors every night before you go to bed. An unlocked vehicle is an open invitation to thieves looking for valuables in your car or your garage door opener to gain further access. If word gets out that there are no easy targets in DuPage, these burglary crews will move on.

Don’t flush those medications. If you’d like to safely dispose of unused medication, the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office is offering Deterra opiod deactivation kits that can be picked up at the Community Relations Unit of the sheriff’s office located at 501 N. County Farm Road in Wheaton. Just pick up the red phone in the lobby to request your kits. You can also dispose of unwanted prescriptions by parking in the designated space outside our office and placing them in the locked bins in the lobby.
