Unrelenting snow and frigid temperatures have made this a winter to remember. The Township crews have done an outstanding job working many hours plowing and salting to keep roads open. Now, with spring on its way, we turn to assessment of winter damage and road maintenance. As you begin your spring yard work, please remember to keep grass clippings off the road pavement to avoid slippery conditions. Also pesticides and fertilizers as well as grass clippings can wash into the storm water runoff, thus posing a problem to the environment. Questions? Concerns? Call the Road District office at 630-231-8850. And call the office to get your name on the list for chip delivery. We look forward to hearing from you.
John S. Dusza, Winfield Township Highway Commissioner
To remove grass clippings from the road, run the mower over the clippings with the discharge aimed to deliver the clippings onto the lawn, not the ditch, as a final clean up. Another method is to collect the debris in the mower’s grass-catching bag. Then compost it or dispose of it in yard waste collection. Thank you to the homeowner who shared these tips. Ed.
